Newcomer Didi finds a curious little statue in the garden of her new house, which leads her to discover the incredible history of the place she now calls home.

Statue in the Garden is a film by Qianhui Yu, produced by Animate Projects, with the support of Film Hub Midlands as part of the BFI NETWORK, awarding funds from the National Lottery.

Director’s Statement

“The story is based on my experiences after moving to Stoke-on-Trent, a small, British city. Through my film, I hope to inspire others to embrace empathy and to understand those who often feel like outsiders in their surroundings. It's a narrative that shows how anyone can discover a true sense of belonging, no matter where they begin.” Qianhui Yu, January 2025
